Raising Poultry

Pasture Raised Chicken

Our pasture raised poultry is locally produced by chickens that we raise ourselves.  We purchase day old Cornish Cross chicks from a hatchery, and they are safely shipped to our farm.  Once we receive the chicks, they are raised on our farm located near Brownell, Kansas.  Our chickens are fed a feed ration that is specially made at local cooperatives using Kansas produced grains, bean meal, and fat.  This feed provides the chickens with a optimal diet, that is also enriched with balanced minerals and vitamins to ensure that the chickens are healthy and happy.  Our Cornish Cross Chickens are raised in a chick brooder until they reach 3 weeks old.  At that time they are moved to our portable chicken tractors and spend the next 4 to 5 weeks on pasture with access to fresh vegetation, insects, fresh air, and sunshine in addition to their chicken feed.  Chicken tractors are moved daily to provide the chickens with a new patch of pasture.  At 7 to 8 weeks, the chickens are humanely and ethically processed here at the farm.
